Lithium Batteries

Batteries, spare or loose, including lithium-metal or lithium-ion cells or batteries for portable electronic devices, must be carried in carry-on baggage only. Articles whose primary purpose is as a power source, e.g. power banks are considered as spare batteries. Batteries must be declared by the shipper to process the paperwork properly. UN 3481 is the only battery that is allowed to ship by air. UN3480 (Hyper link) The batteries UN3481 are lithium ion batteries, rechargeable, contained in or packed with equipment. The lithium ion batteries UN3481 are classified: Class 9 – UN3481 – Lithium ion batteries contained in or packed with the equipment, but not attached to the source., UN3490 are not allowed.
